In Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, where to rent a motorcycle, either a Honda or a Harley cruiser?

My BF and I are planning a vacation to Miami, Florida, Key West and on the way back home, hit Clearwater on the West Coast. We are novices in planning something like this so any suggestions are appreciated. We are thinking in coming to FT. Lauderdale rather than Miami to save some money, rent a motorcycle, either there or in Miami, walk to Key West, return to Miami and from there take a bus or rent a car to return to Clearwater and Tampa. What is a safe car for Motorcycles in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami?
