Over the Florida peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico is the city of Pensacola. Pensacola is part of a stretch of Florida loving called 'Redneck Rivera' by the locals and in a way this is very true. Not only will you find some great upscale shops and restaurants, but can also relax on the white sandy beaches like sugar stares out at the emerald green waters of the Gulf or you can rent a fishing boat and try to catch one of the many species of fish swimming in the waters around there. The sunsets along the Gulf Coast are some of the most spectacular ever seen you, one of the best places to see an update the sun is in one of the pillars of many points along the water here. It is a great place to relax and take some time to relax and talk time you have to be sure to set your watch to time the center of Pensacola Standard because it is the westernmost city of the peninsula of Florida and a little beyond the gap in standard time zone center, the rest of Florida is in standard time.
Pensacola has a rich history. It is known as "The City of Five Flags" because at one time or another, has been under the control of five different governments including the Confederacy. When the Spanish controlled the Pensacola called that was the name Indian, when the French were in control was Pensacolle, it became permanently known Pensacola, as when the English took in 1763.
You can relive the days of World War II and view some of the most famous aircraft used to defend our nation then – the Corsair, Dauntless and Hellcat. Also can relive that first moon landing in 1969, as you walk through their recreation of the event.
You can also take a bit of history when you visit the Naval Air Station there and tour the Lighthouse, Fort Barrancas and relive the glory days of Naval Aviation at their spectacular museum. The Pensacola Naval Air Station, also known as the Cradle of Aviation, is home to the world-famous Blue Angels and the Museum of Aviation should not be missed.
The Museum National Naval Aviation history includes not only the Navy but the Marines and Coast Guard as well. Believe it or not this place rivals the Smithsonian. It has about 300,000 square feet of exhibit space, one of the most interesting exhibits is the historical S-3 Viking jet which was used to transport the president George W. Bush to the USS Abraham Lincoln in 2003, where he made his famous "Mission Accomplished" speech.
The waterways have always been an important part of life in Pensacola from the early years when the Spanish built Fort San Carlos de Barrancas to ensure the bay to fishing fleets that bring fresh fish and Gulf shrimp caught in the waters of the Bay and Gulf here.
Pensacola is also a sea port that connects Pensacola Bay in the Gulf of Mexico. So the sunsets enjoy some of the freshest seafood you'll ever eat in one of the many restaurants overlooking the sea.
Fishing in Pensacola, as in most of Florida, is a good year. It is not uncommon for local restaurants to offer selections caught the night before such as snapper, grouper, tuna and wahoo. In the early summer months the shrimp boats come in offering their "seafood – shrimp much to the delight of locals and tourists alike. By taxi their own dinner you can book one of the many charter boats for fishing inshore for redfish, cobia or Pompano, letters can take offshore fishing for wahoo, gold and blue marlin.
Families can plan a week there, of course, is the beach where you can sit in the sand all day or play beach volleyball or build a sandcastle in the surf. You can go on a fishing boat where you can go diving or snorkeling, and if you do not mind doing anything that you can rent a sailboat, or get a canoe or kayak and explore a river or one of the rare dune lakes in the area. When you're in the water in the Florida sun do not forget the sunscreen, you can still get a tan without frying yourself. If you want to get away from the water all together there are many shops to explore both 'mainstream' and quaint little shops that offer local Unique Gifts Florida style and trinkets. If you want to combine a day at the beach with the visit of the basket Quietwater Beach Boardwalk, a local favorite. At night can enjoy one of the restaurants there are several, some of which have some live music nights a week.
