It never ceases to amaze me how many people when trying to catch spotted trout do not take the time to check on tides, phases of the moon, or even think in water temperature.
Speckled trout fish are very temperamental and very sensitive to changes in water temperature and barometric pressure. Go fishing for them just before an approaching front in the fall and see what I mean with impatience, as they eat anything that pull them. If you try to catch Specks during the day when the moon is full, you may not have much luck because they have been feeding all night, especially in the summer when it's hot.
This brings me to another subject, the water temperature. Apart from trying to catch Speckled Trout or really almost any other fish in the middle of the day in summer, but fishing for them in the later will not do as well as fishing for them at dawn on top just before sunrise. This is due to the reflection of water overnight to allow the fish being more active.
If you live in an area with narrow passages or exits that are really in luck. Start from the output side in a tide outgoing and he is confident of regaining the speed limit that sit there waiting trout bait and shrimp that come pouring out. I fished an area called Rollover Pass near Galveston, Texas, where we limited out every day. If you have the opportunity to fish there I recommend Specks in the outgoing tide.
I live in the Panhandle of Florida in a little town called Navarre, who actually have no area like that, but we have a lot of channels that brings me to another point. Speckled trout and is sensitive to heat are also sensitive to cold. In the winter the fish move into shallow waters of creeks and channels and you can take there quite easily. I have friends who are net fishermen catch dozens of them by accident in the winter, while casting their nets for mullet.
Now let me leave you with some suggestions as bait. If you're a fan of artificial bait Mirrorlure recommend either a white with a red head or a small fish Cocohoe clear with a red tail. Bait, I'd rather not go wrong with live shrimp or pinfish. Pinfish are my personal preference, because they last longer and catch larger fish, more not have the problem of other unwanted fish eating as does the shrimp.
