
If you are planning a vacation at Disney World in Orlando or it is helpful if you expand your horizons a bit and explore some of the many attractions are within walking drive from Orlando. One of these attractions are nearby Silver Springs, Florida, where you can see wildlife and enjoy walks in a park created on the site of one of the largest artesian spring formations in the world, producing about 550 million gallons of crystal clear water daily.
Since the mid-19th century the beauty of Silver Springs has attracted visitors and were fixed glass bottom boat rides in to serve the curious tourists in 1870. Today the headwaters of the River Plate have been transformed in a huge natural park with rides and exhibits.
The most attractive feature of the park, which has attracted tourists for over 100 years is the possibility riding through the crystal waters of the Rio de la Plata in glass bottom boats. The boats are crewed by masters and licensed through the seven formations main spring at the headwaters of the River.
There are two popular river cruises you can choose. The "Fort King River Cruise" brings 10,000 through Silver Springs' year history. Interactive exhibits and displays of work include an archaeological dig, Seminole Indian village, the decade 1830 Fort King Army stockade, a late spring 1880 river and train station, and an authentic Florida pioneer "Cracker Homestead.
"The Lost River Voyage" to transport guests back in time to wild Florida as it was thousands of years-untouched and untamed. The banks are lined with towering bald cypress trees, some over 500 years old. See alligators, turtles, herons, ospreys and other wildlife basking and feeding wild in their natural habitat.

"Wings of the Springs" is presented in silver Outdoor River Showcase Theater. This is a dramatic free-flight entertainment with a varied collection of birds. The presentation of the sample parrots of the rainforest, comical ducks and chickens, and the magnificent birds of prey (including hawks, eagles, owls, falcons and vultures). The program is educational and entertaing and there's a surprise end!
"Reptiles of the World Show" features reptile handlers that make an interesting and educational presentation on alligators, crocodiles, turtles and dispels some myths about these fascinating cold-blooded animals.
"No poisonous Snake Show" offers its guests the opportunity to see, touch and learn about the many different species of snakes in the world, and the important role they play in controlling rodents and other pests.
"Creature Feature shows some of the most fearsome creatures of the night. This program has fruit bats from Egypt, tarantulas, emperor scorpions, giant toads and mantis, and a "baby cam" allows guests a close eye on the screens above.
Alligator and crocodile feeding is presented every day at 2:30 pm (during the warm summer months). Reptile keepers feeding behavior that offer guests the opportunity to witness the feeding habits of several species while learning more about these ancient creatures.
If you want to visit Silver Springs and Wild Waters Water Park is located east of Ocala, Florida on SR 40. Take exit 352 east of I-75 or exit 268 west of I-95.
