Is it safe to eat out of a coconut right of a palm tree in Florida?

I'm on vacation in Cape Coral in a rental house. If a get a coconut to fall I can eat this tree. There is also something I should know about how the shell and such. Thanks

not only safe, but a lot of fun here! needs a heavy sharp knife, carefully cut the shell to reach the nut. (not required) to expose only the top (the root) will small eye, usually three, get two, with a little tool, stick and a drinking straw into one, I like to pour a little rum or gin in mine then stir for a good drink!
