Where is a good beach, family vacations near Savannah GA?

We are planning a summer vacation. I want to visit Savannah GA by a couple of days and then spend the next 3 or 4 days on a beach not far from the savannah. Do not want to get into Florida as we are driving from Virginia. What is a good family beach to visit with things to do for teenagers and adults? We are looking for a beach hotel / motel apartments / houses for rent.

Tybee Island is about 20 miles from side there are some good restaurants and decent hotels. If you want to avoid a crowded beach cove go to Tybee. It's all the way Main Street (Butler Avenue) that turn at the entrance of AVE.
